The Music Educators National Conference (MENC), an organization of music teachers and researchers, has established this research agenda for music education specifies some important lines of inquiry that will lead to improvement in the quality of music teaching and learning. The agenda reflects the responses of music educators throughout the nation who answered a questionnaire in which they were asked to identify pressing issues and questions. The agenda lists 53 research questions. It is organized into the following sections: "Introduction"; "Research Questions"; "Music Teaching and Learning in a Time of Innovation and Reform"; "Music Education for New, Diverse, and Underserved Populations"; "Supporting and Surrounding Issues"; "MENC's Research Enterprise"; "On the Purpose and Process of Research: Marsha's Story"; and "In Conclusion." Includes 11 notes. Contains resource lists, including MENC research journals, other research journals, special research interest groups, and related research agendas. (BT)
