The records cover the activities of the Reverend Thomas Thompson, and contain his letters to and from the Society. Reverend Thompson was responsible for sending to England the sons of three Gold Coast chiefs, one of whom, Philip Quaque, became the first non-European to receive Anglican Orders. Later records document the consolidation of the Society's work in the Gold Coast made possible by the amalgamation of the missions of the Sierra Leone and Nigeria with the Gold Coast mission, and the spread of English education in the area.
