Summary:

Diaries and letterbooks documenting life in the Canberra region. The bulk of the collection comprises the diaries of George Fane De Salis, the son of Leopold De Salis of Cuppacumbalong. Also included in the collection are three letterbooks. The earliest (1856-1860?) was kept by Leopold. The other two both dated 1892-1894, contain letters by Leopold, George and William De Salis

Biography/History:

In May 1856 Leopold de Salis purchased the property of Cuppercumbalong near Tharwa. This was the beginning of a long family association with the district of Canberra and Michelago. See Proceedings Canberra and District Historical Society 1960.
