Having work published is an important part of a teacher's professional development, but many educators may be uncertain about how to write for publication. This "how-to" guide for teachers aims to make it easy by adopting a reader-friendly tone and a can-do attitude. The guide explains the role of thinking in writing for publication and offers ideas for assessing and improving thinking. It explains how to organize a writing life and form a writing habit and discusses potential writing outlets for teachers. The guide concludes by focusing on one type of professional publication--a book review--and explains why and how to submit a review for publication. Practice assignments interspersed throughout the guide's chapters are intended to activate thinking and improve writing skills. The guide takes teachers through the cognitive processes of writing and shows them that they, too, have the expertise to write for publication. An appendix includes sample charts for analyzing and keeping track of thinking skills, guidelines for writing a book review, and sample letters for submitting a book review. (Contains 82 references.)
