- "A photograph taken at Anvil Wood, near Peronne, in France, on 2nd September, 1918, showing the gap in the tangled wire through which some of the 53rd Australian Battalion advanced the day before in the face of heavy machine-gun fire. The packs of five wounded men may be seen and two of four men killed; other dead are on the right behind the tangled wire. Notice a shell bursting on an old Casualty Clearing Station near Quinconce, between Peronne and Mont St. Quentin."--Printed caption.
