-
An artists' book in two volumes, using colour photocopy/laser collage, rubber stamps on various papers and appropriated stationary forms, some with original markings. Each volume resembles the other but includes artful repetition or difference in assembly. The first page of each volume is printed on a Japanese resume form with the title rubber stamped, reproductions of a page from a novel (Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter, Chapter 5, Hester at Her Needle), and a torn coloured page. Subsequent pages reproduce furniture catalogues and product colour numbers, children's artwork, the artist's portrait making a "shush" gesture, advertising pages from "True romance, November, 1956" and conclude with two pages of an English and Japanese dictionary, a Spanish language children's book, and child's school assignment, rubber stamped in red "for trying." Volume 1 reproduces the artist's poem "Doubt": "Nothing ultimately is wasted / Do you presume to know / The inner workings of a mind / Out of grasp / That slips gently between youthful fingers..."
