- Summary:
-
An advertising promotional children's book, with about twenty poems and nine short stories, characterised by good-humoured gratuitous mentions of J. Kitchen & Sons' products such as Velvet soap, Electrine candles, and Witch soap ('no rub, only boil'). The colour front wrapper depicts a witch who speeds on her broom across a golden moon, accompanied by her familiar, a black cat, clawed on for dear life, while two intrepid infants follow on their own small broomsticks. The most interesting story is 'The two fairies' (pages 20-23) in which a black Australian fairy visits England and "is presented to the King and Queen of the fairies, and, being the first black fairy to visit England, she made quite a sensation and was the belle of the season."--Based on a catalogue description from Pioneer Books, May 8th, 2014.
