An unusual painting of mid-eighteenth Vue d'Optique view of Peking, engraved and published in Paris. Published by Jacques Chereau (1688-1776), a well-known printmaker and publisher of optical prints, established in Rue St.Jacques, Paris. This art work is based on a drawing by Dutch traveller Johan Nieuhof (1618-72) during his stay in China from 1654-57 when he visited Peking as a secretary of a Dutch Embassy.
