The papers generally relate to the last 17 years of Boyd's life. The collection includes general correspondence (1957-1972); diaries (1955-1972); manuscripts of literary material, notebooks (undated); financial documents (1969-1972); personal papers; photographs and miscellaneous items. The main correspondents are: Alan Shadwick, Hugh Fausset, Leonie Kramer, Mim Pollack, Dallas Kenmore, and Luciano Trombini.

Born Lucerne, Switzerland 1893. Novelist. Arrived in Australia when he was six months old with parents. Originally wrote under pseudonyms Martin Miles and also Martin a'Beckett. Later lived in Italy 1958. Died 3 June 1972. Best known works: The Montforts; Lucinda Brayford; The Cardboard Crown; A Difficult Young Man; Outbreak of Love; When Blackbirds Sing. Official biographer is Brenda Niall with assistance from Terry O'Neill. Martin's brother was Penleigh Boyd, the artist.
