The collection is chiefly of popular songs or dance tunes arranged for brass band, often reprinted from various brass band journals. The works consist mainly of parts for brass band only, with a few full scores. Each set of parts is in a folder labelled with name of the work. It also includes band "charts" (small, landscape scores pasted on card meant for mounting on brass instruments to play while marching).
Biography/History:
The Kogarah Concert Band, founded in 1886, is the oldest continuing community band in Australia and reflects a time when every suburb or municipality had its own concert band. Some of the scores bear the stamps of other community bands as when they folded they passed on their music to other bands.
