Folkloric recording. Pat Salkin, Anglo-Australian primary school teacher, speaks of her birth in a country town in Victoria where her father was a school teacher, her Australian education, how she took Greek studies at Melbourne University majoring in Greek, what she teaches now, describes women's culture among Greek Australians and the preservation of Greek traditions, the Greek tradition she admires making them strong mothers devoted to their children, why she cannot relate to the concept of "nikokira" though Greek society is based on it, the role of the father in the Greek family, two daughters she knows who rebelled against Greek traditions, the Greek tradition she practices such as Greek cooking, her visits to Greeks celebrating name days.
Salkin discusses her membership of Greek dance groups, Greek dance and music and her four trips to Greece and how she was treated by them, her studies at the University of Thessaloniki, Greek friends she made, describes the theatrical play The Bus written and acted out by students, travelling in Greece and her future trip, differences in Greek traditions in Greece and Australia, marriage and engagement as important rites of passage, her understanding of the "lechona" concept, discusses Greek lullabies, describes a folklife project she undertook for her degree.
