Velos speaks of the village in Greece where she and her parents were born, her father worked as a farmer and her mother was a nurse, how they emigrated to Australia when she was 10, how quickly she adapted to the Australian way of life but had to make adjustments at school, her secondary schooling in Melbourne, her tertiary studies at Melbourne University, why she did not become a nurse, started teaching Modern Greek in secondary school, her relatives here in Australia, the importance of Church to her religious practices, how she celebrates name days, birthdays and baptisms, describes her big wedding, her understanding of women's culture and traditional Greek roles, her definition of nikokira, international cooking, the traditions she learnt from her mother, considers entry into university as most important rite of passage as well as 21st birthday and marriage.
Velos discusses traditions relating to birth of her children, her understanding of "lechona", nursery rhymes and lullabies and stories she used with her children, discusses the evil eye and ritual and the some Greek women believe in supernatural powers, how Greek women contribute to Australian society but the Greek community is dominated by males, her role as President of Estia which is a women's cultural organisation with 63 members and the cultural activities they have organised, Greek traditions will remain and the traditions she transmits to her children and traditions, the future of Greek language and how it should be taught at school.
