Ambassador, commentator and author. Malcolm Booker worked for the Australian government as a diplomat and foreign affairs officer for many years. Booker's earliest postings included Manila, 1950-1952, and Rangoon where he was Charge d'Affaires, 1952-1953. As ambassador, Booker was posted to Thailand in 1960, Italy, 1970-1974 and Yugoslavia, Romania and Bulgaria, 1974-1976. He took early retirement at the end of his term in Belgrade. As a commentator on Australian foreign policy, Booker wrote a weekly foreign affairs column for The Canberra times. He was also the author of several publications. Booker died on 15 July, 1998.
