These include: John Shrimpton (life, for stealing a watch), Rich[ard] Pickard (14 years old, 7 years, for burglary), Bridget Hobbs (7 years, for stealing), Elizabeth Welsh (7 years, for stealing a silver watch), Sarah Jessop (7 years, for stealing a purse and a watch), Catharine Gibson (alias Dodd, 7 years, for various thefts), William Cann (7 years, for burglary and stealing a watch), Thomas Sweeney (7 years, for stealing 2s6d), Henry Bayley and John Harvey (both 7 years, for robbery), William Callaway (life, for uttering a counterfeit and forged promissory note), Richard Geen (or Green?) The names of six of the transportees appear in the records of convicts sent to Van Diemen’s Land or New South Wales: Bridget Hobbs and Sarah Jessop were transported to Van Diemen’s Land on the Borneo, arriving at Hobart Town on 7 January 1829. Richard Pickard was transported to New South Wales on the John, arriving at Sydney on 13 September 1829. John Shrimpton, William Callaway and Thomas Sweeney were transported to New South Wales on the Vittoria, arriving at Sydney on 17 January 1829. —Douglas Stewart Fine Books, May 2017.
