In the five years since SIS agent Jeremy Wheeler fought to the death with his nemesis, Hasan in the London sewers, a lot has changed. England and Northern Ireland reached an accord with the Good Friday Agreement in 1999. The IRA was disbanded, relinquishing their weapons in return for the closing of the Maze prison and the release of its prisoners; including the notorious IRA killer, John McConnell. His release set off alarms in the SIS and Jeremy Wheeler was alerted. His identity had been compromised, forcing him to choose the new identity of Jeffrey Spence for his new assignment back in Belfast. AN EYE FOR AN EYE takes on the same page turning, thrilling action of Who Goes There? as two young assassins, spurned by their hero, an aging McConnell, go on a killing spree; executing all those responsible for their fathers' deaths during the 'Troubles'. Spence has no SIS Intel on the killers, he is saddled with three young SIS rookies and only after several deaths does he tie them into that fateful day in 1995 when McConnell's men were slaughtered. Taking a gamble that McConnell is their last target, Spence sets a trap, not realising he is confronting a marksman as good as himself.
