The collection comprises John Trigg's personal correspondence to his family and friends; poetry; journals; theatre programs; school books; and writings. His correspondence and unpublished writings record his experience of growing up in the farming region of Cummins, South Australia, his travels to France as a Rotary exchange student in 1970, his religious upbringing, his sexuality and experience as a gay rights activist, living with HIV after his diagnosis in 1985, and his love of sport and Australian Football. Also includes a transcript of Trigg's 1992 interview for The Australian Response to AIDS oral history project.

John Trigg held a variety of jobs including professional folk singer, editor of the Oxford Weekender News and organiser of retreats for people recently diagnosed with HIV. Trigg was a gay rights activist, a founding member of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Choir, and, after being diagnosed with HIV and Hep B + in 1985, an active campaigner for rights, treatments and services for people living with HIV. Trigg volunteered in the Sydney Olympics and Paralympics, and represented the National Association of People with HIV Australia (NAPWHA) at international APN+ conferences. He lived in country South Australia and Victoria, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and France.
