"During the period 1900-1907, Brisbane experienced eight outbreaks of bubonic plague. In April, 1900, ‘some twenty local authorities, within a radius of 12 miles of Brisbane, were combined to form "The Metropolitan Joint Board." This Board, in addition to all other powers vested in it, was empowered to define the limits of any locality which was, or was likely to be, subjected to a visitation of epidemic or infectious diseases; to provide and manage hospitals for the treatment of persons affected with such disease; to arrange for house-to-house visitation, medical aid and accommodation, and the promotion of cleansing and disinfection.’ [Report On Plague In Queensland 1900-1907. p.41 https://archive.org/details/b21354741] Areas with outbreaks were quarantined and notices such as this were issued to residents to provide information and access to services, including medical assistance and food. This Notice states the local Depot was located at the Technical College, South Brisbane, situated close to the harbour, one of the main sources of the outbreaks.'--Acquisitions documentation.
