In 1834 Cornelius Gavin Casey was posted to the penal settlement at Port Arthur, and went on to work in various districts around Tasmania. A substantial part of the collection comprises the papers of Richard Gardiner Casey, who became a pastoralist and businessman, served as a member of the Queensland parliament and was Chairman of the Victoria Racing Club. The collection also includes correspondence between Dermot Armstrong Casey and his parents Richard and Evelyn Casey, his brother Richard Gavin Gardiner Casey (Baron Casey of Berwick), correspondence between Niall and Evelyn Casey, and photographs and objects from his time serving in World War I.
