1. Papers relating mainly to Sir Thomas Brisbane and Sir Thomas Mitchell, 1813-45. The 1813-25 papers relate to military activities in the Iberian Peninsula. Later papers relate to Mitchell's survey and exploration work in Australia, maps on Spain etc. 2. General papers, 1826-1845; including correspondence concerning colonies; Colonial Office letterbooks, 1826-1830; Ordnance letters, 1841-44; and private letterbook, 1841-46. Topics include Swan River Establishment and colonial patronage.

Entered Army 1789, becoming General in 1841. Governor of Royal Military College, Sandhurst, 1819-24. Tory M.P. 1823-32, 1834. Secretary of State for War and Colonies, 1828-30. Master General of Ordnance, 1834-35, 1841-46.
