"This report presents a summary of cement-based lag experiments that have been undertaken to date. These experiments show that smearing of 2-3m from 50-100m depth in sample collected after the SRU, and ~1m for sample collected before the SRU for 100m depth can be seen in geochemistry. Smearing occurs within the drill hole but cannot be eliminated. Preliminary results show that smearing can occur due to top-of-hole components, namely the SRU, and experiments are underway to assess the role of the SRU in the smearing. As smearing dilutes the geochemical signal, it is important to minimise smearing and optimise the detection limit of the pXRF used in the LAR setup. The results are comparable to data seen from Bushranger Drilling Trials undertaken in a real drilling environment. The cement-based lag experiments are therefore considered analogous to results that could be expected from drilling real-rock. Down hole real-rock experiments using a variety of lithologies are warranted to ensure this assumption is correct. These experiments will be undertaken following experiments being undertaken in P3.2: Module 6 that are aimed at assessing the influence of drilling on geochemistry, particle size distribution and mineralogy, and P1.1 lifting experiments" -- Executive summary.
