Collection of photographs by various photographers including Athol Shmith, Max Dupain and others, and glass lantern slides by Charles Percy Mountford. The collection includes images of Aboriginal Australian men, women and children, other various people, rock carvings, artifacts, towns, cities, rural areas, inland and coastal areas, sporting events, native flora and fauna of Australia, and photographs taken overseas including Europe, the Arctic regions, Africa, North and South America, and Asia.
- Biography/History:

Joyce Evans was an Australian photographer, art historian, gallery director, curator, art collector and lecturer. Evans worked across a number of photographic genres, including portraiture, landscape, and documentary photography. Between 1976 and 1982 Evans operated the Church Street Photographic Centre, a specialist photography gallery and bookshop in Church Street, Richmond, Victoria. It was the first commercial photographic gallery in Melbourne and it exhibited works by renowned Australian and overseas photographers. In 1978 she was appointed Approved Commonwealth Valuer for Australian and International photography from the 19th Century to the present day for the Australian Government's Cultural Gifts Program. She was a lecturer in the history of photography at RMIT University and also worked as an honorary photographer for the Department of Aboriginal Affairs in Central Australia and documented Australian country towns and events for the National Library of Australia for over 10 years.
