Somerset Bean, a prominent WikiLeaks supporter and graphic designer, ran a poster campaign, the goal of which was to print and paste up a thousand of #BringAssangeHome posters in prominent locations in Australian cities during May 2019.
Julian Assange is an Australian journalist, computer programmer and the founder and director of WikiLeaks, an international publishing organisation known for revealing war crimes, human rights abuses, and corruption. In 2010 the United States government launched a criminal investigation into WikiLeaks and Sweden issued an international arrest warrant for Assange in relation to allegations of sexual assault. He surrended himself to United Kingdom police, but was unsuccessful in his challenge to the extradition proceedings. He breached his bail in 2012 and sought asylum in the Embassy of Ecuador in London where he remained for almost seven years. On 11 April 2019, Ecuador withdrew Assange's asylum; the police were invited into the embassy and he was arrested. He was found guilty of breaching the Bail Act and on 1 May 2019 he was sentenced to 50 weeks in prison in the United Kingdom.
