- Summary:
-
As part of the Royal Commission's investigation of how institutions respond to child sexual abuse abuse, it will conduct case studies of selected incidents to more fully understand the institutional and systemic factors involved. This report investigates the policies and procedures of two orthodox Jewish institutions, the Yeshivah Centre and the Yeshivah and Beth Rivkah Colleges of Melbourne, Victoria, and the Yeshiva Centre and the Yeshivah College in Bondi, New South Wales. In particular, it examines the responses to allegations made against Shmuel David Cyprys, Rabbi David Kramer, Aron Kestecher, and Daniel Hayman, including the influence of Jewish law on the responses of the institutions, the experiences of survivors, the community's response to survivors and their families, and the responses of community leaders. The case study's website also includes transcripts, opening addresses, and witness lists from the related public hearings held in Melbourne in February 2015 and Sydney in September 2015.
