- Summary:
-
Poster showing an image of passengers disembarking from a Qantas Empire Airways (QEA) Lockheed L749-79 Constellation VH-EAB. The composition is dominated by a fashionably dressed woman in a pink coat walking past a line of Qantas cabin crew wearing dark blue uniforms. Colour lithograph signed "Maudson" in image lower left (probably the Sydney commercial artist John Maudson, 1918-1996).
- Biography/History:
-
VH-EAB was acquired by Qantas on 22 October 1947 and served until it was disposed of to BOAC on 26 February 1955. "The winged kangaroo symbol was created by Sydney designer Gert Sellheim, and first appeared in January 1947 to coincide with Qantas' introduction of Lockheed L749 Constellations. These aircraft began operating on the UK service in December 1947. They were the first Qantas aircraft to carry the Flying Kangaroo and the first to operate right through to London with Qantas crews. The Flying Kangaroo was later placed in a circle."--Qantas website viewed 20 August 2019, https://www.qantas.com/travel/airlines/history-kangaroo-symbol/global/en
