- Summary:
-
Josephine and George Nye lived and worked in Millthorpe, NSW from the late 1870s to the mid 1920s. Josephine Geitz, of German heritage, and George Nye, from England, both worked for the NSW Railways, Josephine as a level-crossing gatekeeper, and George as a ganger. They were present at the time of the building of the Great Western Railway from Sydney to Bathurst and beyond; George was one of those who worked on the construction of this line. This book tells something of the backgrounds of these two people, how they came to be living in Millthorpe and their involvement in the Millthorpe community of their day. It also explores the lives of their nine children, with emphasis on that branch of the family to which the author belongs.
