This collection comprises a letter dated 28 February 1955, written by artist William Dobell, addressed from Wangi Wangi, New South Wales, to his friend and fellow artist Edmund Arthur Harvey, regarding Dobell's controversial 1943 Archibald Prize winning portrait of Joshua Smith. Edmund Harvey had been safekeeping the portrait and Dobell writes that he can keep the portrait. The letter also details how Dobell has lost confidence in making portraits and how his time is now consumed by personal matters instead of painting.
