This upstart Port Douglas : a different view of Port Douglas as reported by newspapers between 1873 and 1911 / Noel Weare

This Upstart Port Douglas Researching Australian colonial local history over many years I found one of the very useful internet resources to be the National Library of Australia's Trove digitised newspapers website. Certain caveats apply of course, and like the press of today, all reported information has to be viewed in a discretionary manner, but from another point of view maybe these newspaper editions give rise to accurate time stamps. It seems to me then that the time-line of events can be read by using the actual text of digitised images, sometimes partial fragments, together with my own historical comments and attached notes. A warning here: some printed newspaper articles from many years ago can sometimes be a bit hard to decipher but with a little practise translation can become second nature. On this basis I hope that the reader will find the "flavour" of the reporting to be of interest and provide an insight into the values of the day - I do not necessarily subscribe to the opinions given nor do I wish generally to express my own views about those opinions here - that is for the reader to decide.
