Papers of John Simms Baker, approximately 1970s-1980s

This collection comprises papers created by John Simms Baker, a trade union official. It includes correspondence and typewritten plays: 'The A-Bomb confessions'; 'Billie and the anarchists' and a synopsis for another play ‘Chips of Prometheus or the 'Chips of Lud’. The collection also includes a position paper by John Baker titled 'Technology and survival: some worms eye views from down under' written for a conference on technology organised by the Foundation for National Progress and held in California in 1980; a paper presented to the Conference on Modern Technologies held in Hendon, London titled 'The Challenge of Technology and some Union Responses’; and a draft article 'An International of Luddites – Uranium Policy – Australian Labor Party decision 1977' for a series on 'The Luddite tradition in the techno-challenges: urban/community worker consciousness in techno change'.
