-
- The remainder issue which came out in the same year as the ‘three decker’ three-separate-volume first edition. Such sheets of the first edition ‘as remained were bound up, three-volumes-in-one, in scarlet ribbed cloth with gold lettering on the spine’ (Michael Sadleir, Trollope, a bibliography, 1964, page 174).
- National Library of Australia's copy does not include the title page and contents to volume two but there is no evidence that they were ever present. The lawlessness of the Australian frontier attracted fiction writers and Trollope was no exception. Ownership inscriptions on front free endpaper. Head of spine worn and chip to foot of spine; corners of boards worn; front inner hinge cracked; scattered marks internally; a fragile but nevertheless good surviving copy of a remainder system of clearing stock which ensured that not too many copies survived multiple readings as the contents tended to be far too bulky for the bindings.
