- Summary:
-
"This report by the Inspector of Custodial Services examines the management and care of aged inmates in NSW correctional centres. There has been a steady and significant increase in the number of older inmates in prison over the past decade, and this is projected to continue, if not accelerate. Older inmates often have complex health issues and specific needs and vulnerabilities related to their age. This creates particular challenges for managing older inmates and ensuring the effective use of resources, which are already under significant strain. The rising number of aged inmates poses challenges for policy development, planning, duty-of-care obligations, the delivery of services across the NSW correctional system and end-of-life arrangements." --Executive summary (page 9).
