Includes articles published between 1961-1985. The Australian Military Forces from 1903 to 1948 was largely a militia army with a very small regular cadre, for service in Australia only. The Militia was also known as the Citizens Forces, Citizen Military Forces. and, unofficially, the Australian Military Forces. In 1980, however, the current name-Australian Army Reserve-was officially adopted. There was also the Volunteer Defence Corps (VDC), modelled on the British Home Guard, and run by the RSL. In February 1942 the VDC was made part of the CMF, but with different conditions of service.
