In 1959, the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Australia and New Zealand was elevated to Archdiocese. In 1970, Australia and New Zealand were split into the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia and the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Zealand.
