This report collates information on the health and wellbeing of children in far western New South Wales. Though this region equates to approximately one quarter of the total area of the state, it is largely classified as 'remote' or very remote', and includes the areas of Balranald, Broken Hill, Central Darling, Wentworth, and Tibooburra. The report compares statistics for local Indigenous and non-Indigenous children, and Indigenous and non-Indigenous across the state. It provides information as available on: socioeconomic conditions, housing overcrowding, income and employment, perinatal and infant mortality, morbidity, mental health, breastfeeding, dental health, early learning, physical activity, attending early childhood education programs, transition to primary school, school attendance, literacy and numeracy, social and emotional development, overweight and obesity, environmental tobacco smoke, family functioning, out-of-home care, parent health, neighbourhood safety and social capital, injuries, bullying, violence and crime, homelessness, infant health screening, and immunisation. These key indicators will be followed over time to monitor how successful we are at 'closing the gap' for Aboriginal child outcomes.
