The book features special recipes, personal stories and insights from 11 cancer survivors and fighters, blended with a flavour of Bathurst and surrounding areas. The essence of the book is all about Hope and how people can find courage and friendship even in the darkest of places, crying and laughing together as they navigate their own personal cancer journey. The book also features recipes supplied by Maggie Beer and Cancer Council NSW, along with information from the Cancer Council and local support services. Bathurst on a Plate was the idea of one woman, Noorjehan Merchant, who in the fight of her life was full of Hope and was looking for a way she could make a difference in her dream of a cancer free future. She enlisted the help of a group of breast cancer survivors who formed a registered charity, the Bathurst Beaters. Unfortunately, Noorjehan never got to hold the book in her hands as she lost the battle with cancer in December, 2019. The book is dedicated to her. The Bathurst Beaters have realised Noorjehan's dream of creating the book and hope that the money raised from the sale of the book will fulfill the dream of a cancer free future. The Bathurst Beaters raised the funds in the local community to pay for the costs associated with printing the book. All proceeds from the sale of the book will be given to the Cancer Council NSW specifically for research into women's cancers.
