This collection of photographs are of a rally held in Melbourne on 27 February 2022, to show support for the people of Ukraine after their country was invaded by Russia under the direction of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Around 3000 people gathered in Treasury Garden, Melbourne and marched to Federation Square, where they were addressed by Victorian Opposition Leader Matthew Guy, whose Ukrainian grandparents fled the Soviet Union in 1949. Other speakers included former federal opposition leader Bill Shorten and Senator the Hon Sarah Henderson, representing both sides of the political spectrum in Australia. These photographs document the response of the Australian community, in Australia’s second largest city and the metropolitan area with the 10th largest immigrant population in the world, to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia in 2022--Information provided in acquistions documentation.
