This collection comprises material relating to Romaldo Giurgola's education, qualifications, employment, work, and various awards and honours he received. There is extensive Australian and international publications that cover his work, as well as published and unpublished material by Giurgola. The collection displays Giurgola's use of traditional architectural techniques through extensive original sketches and watercolour drawings and includes a number of awards he received during his career.
Series 1 comprises personal papers of Romaldo Giurgola, including details of his education, architectural registrations of various countries and states, and Giurgola's watercolour and drawing set.
Series 2 comprises writing and research done by Romaldo Giurgola including publications and talks on Canberra, other architects work, and unpublished book proposals. It also includes publications created by architectural firms he headed.
Series 3 comprises writing by various authors on Romaldo Giurgola and his work, primarily publications and newspaper and magazine clippings.
Series 4 comprises drafts, notes, plans, and other materials from projects that Romaldo Giurgola worked on or with which he was involved. It includes papers relating to Australian and overseas projects, including original early sketches of Parliament House, including conceptual ideas of the iconic mast.
Series 5 and 6: The current numbering and structure were provided by the donor. Series 5 and 6 may be listed as part of future consignment/s.
Series 7 comprises photographs and slides taking during Romaldo Giurgola's career.

Architect, academic and author. Born in Italy and educated in the U.S.A., Romaldo Giurgola was a founding partner of the American architectural firm Mitchell/Giurgola & Thorp Architects, where he designed award-winning buildings in the U.S.A., Europe, Asia and Australia, including Parliament House in Canberra. After spending time in Australia to oversee the on-site work of the construction of Parliament House, Giurgola eventually moved to live in Canberra permanently in 1988.
