- Summary:
-
"Nitrogen (N) is usually the most limiting nutrient for pastures on dairy farms. It is required in relatively large amounts and can have a big effect on supply and quality of feed on farm. Whilst soil reserves supply much of a pasture's requirement. N fertiliser is being used in greater amounts on-farm to boost pasture production. Used correctly, it is a very cost effective and efficient way to increase home grown feed. Used poorly, N fertiliser becomes expensive, as pasture responses can be low, animal health may be at risk and losses may cause unintended damage to the environment."--Introduction.
