The collection comprises various papers including 12 printed chapters of Bryan Colton Brett's unpublished autobiography, 1 CD with digital copy of autobiography and 10 photographs.

Bryan Colton Brett was born on 15 February 1930, the youngest of a family of five. His father was a farmer, water diviner and borer contractor. His mother was a missionary's daughter and teacher. He went to Lancaster School, Kyabram HES, Melbourne Boys High and then through the Dafydd Lewis Scholarship studied science at the University of Melbourne. He was employed by the Department of Defence at Maribyrnong Munitions Factory from 1951 until 1958 when he joined the Joint Intelligence Bureau. He was sent to Harwell in the UK to study Nuclear Technology in 1963-1964, and on his return was to be employed further in that area. He became an Intelligence analyst specialising in China, Japan, and Nuclear Technology. He is referenced in Bob Mathams' book, Sub Rosa (1982) as the person who predicted China's first nuclear test. Bryan Brett wrote on economic development and nuclear technology, developing an interest in nuclear disarmament treaties.
