- Summary:
-
"The Simon Taylor was constructed through the wealth of the Taylor family. The wealth was accumulated mainly in the Caribbean and through slavery on the family's plantations. Eventually conditions changed and the Taylor family sold the Simon Taylor to Thompson and Company, a company that had other vessels engaged in conveying migrants from the UK to the English Colonies overseas. There were 219 migrants on board the barque Simon Taylor when it departed London in 1842 for the voyage of 111 days to the Swan River Colony. .... The events leading to the loss of the ship in 1849 could be a story in itself. This publication endeavours to explore the ship, its voyage history especially in 1842, and lists some details about eh 219 migrants."--Back cover.
