In Becoming a Botanist, Emeritus Professor Carrick Chambers AM tells his story of growing up during the depression in Auckland and the start of his interest in botany, horticulture and conservation. He followed his passion and travelled miles from home as a young adult to Sydney, Cambridge, Melbourne and beyond. He became Professor of Botany at the University of Melbourne in 1967 and went on to become Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Sydney from 1986 to 1996.
