- Although the title: Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal was used from this publications inception in 1832, the name, Asiatic Society of Bengal, was not officially adopted until 1851. Prior to this date the official name of the organization was the Asiatick Society.
- Some issues accompanied by supplements or extra numbers.
- Issues for 1832-1864 include the Society's proceedings (later published separately); v. 73, pt. 1 includes section "Numismatic supplement," no. 1-4.
- Merged with: Proceedings of the Asiatic Society of Bengal in 1904 to form: Journal and proceedings of the Asiatic Society of Bengal. However in order to complete the work of the series two vols (74 & 75) were published after the commencement of this new title, vol. 74 (1905/08) and vol 75 (1912-1936).
- With a book-plate stating that this item is from the library of S.S. "Discovery" of the Polar Expedition of 1901-4, and was presented to this Library by Sir R. Leicester Harmsworth.
