UNIFEM is the women's fund at the United Nations. Established in 1976, it provides financial and technical assistance to innovative programmes and strategies to foster women's empowerment and gender equality. UNIFEM Australia Inc. is the official National Committee for Australia and is one of 17 national committees formed throughout the world. UNIFEM Australia Inc. started in 1991 and supports the mission of UNIFEM through its membership programmes, public education about UNIFEM and global women's issues, and fund-raising efforts to support UNIFEM programmes worldwide.
