Extensive collection of personal correspondence documenting his life and official activities in both Tasmania and Western Australia, and subjects including: honours; industrial development in Tasmania; Australian political leaders; the 1917 conscription referendum; Federal-State relations; possible abolition of State Governors; and the visit of the Prince of Wales to Australia in 1920. Correspondents include Sir Ronald Munro-Ferguson, Lord Forster, Lord Stamfordham, L.S. Amery, Sir William Irvine, Sir Arthur Stanley, Lord Stradbroke, Sir Walter Davidson, Sir Henry Galway, Sir Elliott Lewis and Sir James Mitchell.
There are also photographs and a diary of official engagements 1917-1922.

Sir Francis Alexander Newdigate Newdegate (1862-1936). The son of Lt. Col. F.W. Newdegate of Arbury, Warwickshire he assumed the surname Newdegate in 1903 in accordance with the will of C.N. Newdegate. Educated at Eton and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, he became a lieutenant in the Coldstream Guards. He travelled to India and the colonies in 1885-1887. He married Elizabeth Bagot, daughter of the 3rd Baron Bagot. Newdegate was the Conservative M.P. for Nuneaton in 1892-1906 and for Tamworth in 1909-1917. He was an alderman of the County of Warwick, High Steward of Sutton Coldfield and a governor of Rugby School. He was knighted in 1917. Sir Francis Newdegate was sworn in as Governor of Tasmania on 6 July 1917, suceeding Sir William Ellison Macartney. In April 1920 he again succeeded Sir William Ellison Macartney as Governor of Western Australia, shortly before the visit to the State of the Prince of Wales. He visited England for several months in 1922 but returned to Western Australia and remained Governor until June 1924. He received the G.C.M.G. in 1925.
