The collection consists mainly of letters from George Whitefield Glanville to Davina Wilkie Wight. They were married on 2 March 1885 and had one daughter Hilda Marion Tyndale Glanville (1888-1965). G. W. Glanville, the son of the Rev. John Glanville and Sarah Tyndale, left for Australia on 13 January 1863 and landed at Brisbane on 7 July 1863. He entered the Post Office on 15 November 1863 and married on 4 July 1865. After several promotions he handed over his office to Mr. S. Marshall on 11 January 1896.
The relationship of the other correspondents is shown in the accompanying family trees.
Apart from the 450 family letters the collection also contains genealogical notes; 10 photographs; a copy of the diary of the Rev. John Glanville (1802-1866) covering the years 1827-1828; several newspaper cuttings concerning George Wight and the death of his daughters Annie and Isobel; notebooks and printed items.
There is a name index covering the correspondence.
