The material filmed by the Australian Joint Copying Project includes: typescript 'Sir David Wedderburn, Baronet, MP 1835-1882: Life Sketch' (1985) by D.A. Percival; Diaries 1874-75 (Vols 4 and 5) describing: the voyage from Italy to Australia, travels and encounters within Australia, Anglo-Maori relations; Hokitika and western goldfields; observations of Transit of Venus; and voyage to Honolulu.
Biographical / Historical:

Sir David Wedderburn (1835 - 1882), 3rd Baronet (succeeded 1862). Born in Bombay, educated at Loretto School, Musselburgh, Edinburgh University and Trinity College, Cambridge. Called to Scottish Bar 1861. Inherited estate at Tibberton, near Gloucester, and led life of country gentleman. Officer in Royal South Gloucestershire Militia. Liberal M.P. for South Ayrshire 1868-74 and Haddington Boroughs 1879-82. Wedderburn was a great traveller visiting Scandinavia (1863), India (1864-65), North America (1866), Germany, Austro-Hungary, Turkey and Lebanon (1869), Ceylon, Australia, New Zealand and United States (1874-75), India, Ceylon, Singapore, Java, China, Japan and United States (1876-77), Iceland (1878), Russia (1880), and South Africa (1881-82). Wedderburn was a cousin of Hon. Louis Hope, with whom he stayed in Queensland. (Some papers of Hope have been filmed by the AJCP. on reel M980.)
