Abstract Or Scope
In early 2022, inspired by the Freedom Convoy in Canada, thousands of people from around Australia converged on Canberra, calling themselves the Convoy to Canberra. The Convoy to Canberra was comprised of people protesting disparate issues, but concerns were focused on vaccines and vaccine mandates. The group also included members of the Sovereign Citizen movement, QAnon conspiracy groups, the United Australia Party, some Indigenous activists, far-right groups and others. The Canberra to Convoy protestors frequently decorated their cars with slogans and used flags such as the Australian Red Ensign, the Eureka Stockage flag and the Australian flag flown upside down to communicate their beliefs. This collection documents the Convoy to Canberra protest and comprises images of protestors, their signs and decorated cars, their campground at Exhibition Park in Canberra and associated protest infrastructure, and the protestors marching over Commonwealth Avenue Bridge and gathering in front of Parliament House. It also includes images of influential people within the Australian anti-vaccination mandate movement such as ex-Qantas pilot Graham Hood, and Riccardo Bossi.
