This collection comprises working and personal papers of the late John Halden (Hal) Wootten AC, QC, 1922-2021. Wootten's papers cover his high profile career where he was involved in a wide range of matters of national significance including his years as a barrister, foundation dean of the University of New South Wales Law School, a judge of the Equity Division of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, Chair of the Press Council, President of the Australian Conservation Foundation, a Commissioner into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody, and a Deputy President of the Native Title Tribunal. His papers include notebooks from field-work on Manus Island in 1947, information about the influential LawAsia Foundation from the 1950s, and a folder containing details of the original meetings that established the Aboriginal Legal Service in Sydney in 1970. He acted for both employers and employees in important industrial disputes in the 1960s, out of Chambers he shared with both John Kerr and Gough Whitlam in Sydney. Included in this material on the case of James Savage, aka Russell Moore, a Yorta Yorta and Wemba Wemba man who was incarcerated in the United States of America. Wootten was given leave from the Royal Commission to provide evidence for the trial in California.

The original consignment contains papers relating to Woolfe's novel Leaning towards infinity: how my mother's apron unfolds into my life which was published by Vintage Australia in 1996. The book was later published in the United States, the United Kingdom and Holland. Leaning towards infinity was written over a period of several years and the papers comprise correspondence with publishers, editors and colleagues; research notes; early ideas, edited drafts and proofs.The novel evolved from a play of the same name, written by Woolfe and first performed in the United States in 1995. There are papers relating to the development of the script and to productions of the play in the United States, New Zealand and Australia.

This collection comprises letters dating from 1985-1988 from Norman Wood to Peter Solness, following Solness' visit to Paraguay to document the survivors and descendants of the New Australia Colony, a socialist utopian settlement established by William Lane in 1893-1894. The letters describe Wood's life and his reflections on Paraguay, as well as discussing the correspondence he received from Australians after Solness published an article about the Colony.

MS 3683 comprises correspondence, 1972-1988; financial records, 1978-1989; Women's Electoral Lobby (WEL) national conference records, 1973-1982; records relating to WEL involvement in other conferences such as the National Women's Tax Summit, National Agenda for Women Conference and the United Nations Decade for Women; records relating to WEL activities such as lobbying federal parliamentarians, the production of the WEL national bulletin, submissions and press releases; and, subject files on a wide range of WEL interests including childcare, affirmative action, equal employment opportunity, the Family Law Act, maternity leave, wages and the Sex Discrimination Act. The papers relate to the career and personal life of economist, statistician and senior Commonwealth public servant, Sir Roland Wilson KBE CBE. The papers include correspondence; academic notes; addresses and speech notes; as well as files retained by Wilson on a number of aspects of Australian Commonwealth economic policy development. Correspondents include early statisticians and economists, such as J. B. (James Bristock) Brigden and L. F. (Lyndhurst Falkiner) Giblin, aviators such as Sir Hudson Fysh, and federal ministers and prime ministers such as R. G. Menzies and Harold Holt. Some material relates to issues surrounding the governance and management of the Commonwealth Bank and Qantas when Wilson was member and Chairman of the boards of those enterprises.
