the original MS 563 consignment comprises correspondence, legal documents, newspaper clippings, articles, photographs, a cheque and reference material relating to a range of notable people, as well as printed Australiana and other published matter.Manuscript letters to Farmer Whyte in the consignment were written by James Bryce, Ethel Curlewis, L.H. Allen, Victor Daley, Norman Lindsay and Jim Taylor. The legal documents, many from Brisbane dated 1857-1874, together with accounts and land sales papers, includes the 1835 conditional pardon for William Clarke bearing the seal of George III. There is material describing Charles Dicken's links with Australia including a letter written by James B. Rudd and a memo by T.H. Williams that refers to an article by Farmer Whyte on Edward Bulwer Lytton Dickens. Material relating to World War I and war memorials includes an unsigned typescript letter from Berlin, 1914, describing the environment as the war broke out. There is also a Craftsmen's keepsake on Sir Henry Parkes for 1935-1936.Published matter includes copies of two journals: Old times, vol. 1, no. 2, issued in Sydney in May 1903, and The Harefield Park boomerang, no. 6, March 16, 1917, and newspaper cuttings. Also, nineteenth century issues of The Sydney herald, 23 January 1837, Sydney morning herald, 4 July 1846, and The Empire, 29 July 1853 and 4 May 1857.The non-Australian documents in this consignment include manuscript letters of Lord Birdwood, John Walker to Reginald F.D. Palgrave, T.B. Lord Macaulay, Sir Walter Scott, Thomas Carlyle to J. Kaines, Sir Henry Irving, G.B. Lord Rodney to Arthur Murphy, Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington to the Duc de Richelieu, Sophie Dumaresq to Eliza O'Connell (cross-written), and autograph signatures of J.H. Leigh Hunt and Robert Louis Stevenson. The consignment includes a copy of the publication Della Nuova Guinea: memoria del. prof. Amato Amati (Milano, 1869).

This collection features correspondence, financial records, ledgers, station diaries, family history research, printed material and ephemera dating from 1796 to the early 1960s. This material provides a record of the pioneering Whittakers family and farming life on various stations in New South Wales and Victoria. The papers also include Clyde Whittakers' correspondence and notes relating to his research, most of which contributed to his work The Whittakers Story, which was first published in 2021.

Papers of Patrick White, covering his career and literary work from the early 1930s through to his death in 1990. The collection includes: correspondence received and drafts of correspondence sent by White (1939-1994); 10 literary notebooks (1930s-1970s) which include the beginnings of most of White's 12 novels; papers relating to White's autobiography Flaws in the glass, including all manuscript and typescript drafts; typescripts, corrections and correspondence relating to 3 published novels together with manuscripts for 2 unpublished novels and a novella (c.1965-1986); manuscripts for 3 late plays, typescripts for several major plays, and manuscripts of several [never performed] dramatic works (c.1962-1996); manuscripts and typescripts for several short stories (c.1976-1988); manuscripts for a number of poetry and short prose works (c.1970-c.1988); manuscripts and typescripts of speeches (1972-1989); dramatised extracts, scripts and artwork adapted from or based on White's work (1960-1987); address books and diaries (1960s-1990s); personal documents and certificates (1940-1988); awards received by White (1974-1987); files relating to the Patrick White Literary Award and Patrick White's Choice (1975-1990); theses and draft publications about White's work (1969-1986); scripts written by others and sent to White (1980-1990); photographs (1930-1984); ephemera (1960-1993); and printed material (1934-1990).

This collection comprises slides taken by Jim Frazier during fieldwork with Mary E White. The images, which document fossils, landscapes, minerals and other geological features, were used for many of her publications including "The Greening of Gondwana" (1986), "Time in Our Hands: Semi-Precious Gemstones: Keys to the Geological Past" (1991), "Nature of Hidden Worlds: Reading the rock" (1999) and others. It provides a valuable documentary record of Australia's unique geology and landscape and is a testament to changing relationship of Australia's to the environment. Many of the slides have annotated housing with outlines, species names, measurements, and other information. There is also a small number of photographic prints and negatives included in the collection.

Journal 1863 of White's voyage to Australia on the Henry Fernie September-December 1862. Most of the passengers were Irish, and White writes of their attitude to the English and Scottish passengers. He describes in detail conditions on board, entertainments arranged during the voyage, relations between the passengers, marine life observed, and deaths and burials at sea. He writes vividly of the ship's arrival at Melbourne and his first impressions of the city and its people. An appendix to the 153-page journal contains a copy of a testimonial presented to the captain and published in the Argus of 26 December 1862, a table recording the ship's bearings each day and a note of the destinations of his cabin mates Frederick King, Arthur Hiddle, George Samuelson and James Hall.

This collection documents White's life and career including his early life, his military career which he commenced in 1896, and his life after he retired from military service in 1923. Included are diaries; drafts of lectures, articles and reports by White, mostly on military subjects; financial records; newspaper cuttings; photographs; published works, mainly on military topics; and ephemera, including from royal visits in which White played a key role. There is also a group of papers accumulated by Lady White and a group of more recent papers comprising files created by White's daughter, Rosemary, Lady Derham, while undertaking research for her biography of her father, which was published in 1998.
