This collection comprises recordings from 79 microcassettes relating to the life of pastoralist JJ Leahy created by Gerard Leahy as research for his several books. Titles include 'Horses, cars and aircraft : JJ Leahy pastoral property pioneer' and 'Shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in two generations'. The microcassettes include interviews with Keith and Paul Leahy speaking about their father JJ Leahy (1999-2007) and provide first hand recollections of an important rural figure and of a pastoral industry that is rapidly changing from holdings by individuals to corporate ownership.

MS Acc05.167 comprises the station records of Gidleigh Station and includes station diaries, ledgers, cash books, journals and other financial records, weather readings and stock books.MS Acc14.094 comprises material relating to the initial conveyance of land that would later make up part of the Gidleigh estate. Other documents refer to properties Glenriddle, Carwoola and Gunningbar, also managed by the Rutledge family. Other material includes business and personal correspondence from 1876 to 1982, company tax returns and balance sheets, sheep records 1844-1865, letter books from 1876-1920, meteorological records, conveyancing and land transfer records, mortgage documentation, and stock returns. The collection also holds some of the earliest known research on wool quality in Australia.MS Acc15.113 comprises letters and telegrams sent to the Rutledge family during the First World War, 1914-1918. The majority of the collection consists of letters sent by Thomas (Tom) Rutledge to his mother, Jean Rutledge. They include letters sent from Holsworthy, at sea, Maadi Camp, Gallipoli,Cairo, Port Said, the Soldiers Club at Kantara, and Europe. Also included are letters sent to Mrs Rutledge by her sister, Dame Alice Chisholm.

Works among the manuscripts include Bring larks and heroes, Confederates, The cut-rate kingdom, Halloran's little boat, Ned Kelly and the city of bees, Passenger, Season in purgatory, The survivor, A victim of the Aurora, "Bligh", and "Burke and Wills". A large proportion of the correspondence is with publishers, literary agents and editors including Philip Ziegler, Tessa Sayle, James Moad, Thomas Stewart, Peter Grose, Donald Horne, Peter Cross, W.R. Cumming, John Abernethy, Clem Christesen, Tim Curnow, Geoff Barnes, Geoffrey Blainey, Alec Bolton, Barbara Buick, Peter Coleman, Sir William Collins, Xavier Herbert, Leonie Kramer, Les Murray, Cyril Pearl, Grace Perry, Patricia Rolfe, Fred Schepisi, Gavin Souter and Douglas Stewart. Papers relating to Keneally's involvement with the Australian Republican Movement include correspondence, administrative papers, cuttings, publicity material, newsletters and journals (16 boxes, 1 fol. box).
