Biography/History

Commander of the Beagle and co-author with Darwin of the voyage published in 1839. Governor of New Zealand from 1843-1845 being controversial because of his support of the Maori population. Also an author on maritime and scientific subjects finishing his career as chief of the meteorological department of the Board of Trade.
